Samsung Monte

Samsung's touchscreen mobile phone onslaught shows no sign on stopping, with the Monte arriving on the heels of theSamsung Genio Touch, Genio Slide and Galaxy Portal.
Built around a 3-inch 240 x 400 (WQVGA) touchscreen, the Monte uses Samsung's TouchWiz interface, and that means it has a focus on widgets.
The Monte is pre-loaded with widgets for several social networks, YouTube and BBC iPlayer access, and shortcuts to phone functions and apps.
A physical keyboard is completely eschewed here, in favour of a soft keyboard on the touchscreen. It has haptic feedback, giving a small vibration when you press certain buttons.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X8

The Sony Ericsson X8 should have a lot going for it, as it's a small, affordable Android phone that packs in all the essential features. However, it doesn't quite hang together and there are simply better cheap Android phones available.

Sony Ericsson has had a bit of a topsy turvy time with its Android phones over the years. Its first few attempts, including the Xperia X1and Xperia X10, didn't quite get the balance right but the X10 mini and X10 mini pro both impressed us and were intriguing options if you were looking for a particularly small phone.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 is a high-end smartphone designed by Sony Ericsson in the Xperia series. It is the first Sony Ericsson smartphone to run theAndroid operating system. The phone was shipped running Android 1.6 but an upgrade to Android 2.1 was made available starting from 31 October 2010, with a gradual rollout amongst global kits. Originally Sony Ericsson stated that Xperia X10 family will not receive upgrade to Android 2.2 (Froyo) or beyond, but have recently changed their minds, and users has started to receive Gingerbread 2.3.3 update since july 29th 2011.

The phone features an 8.1 MP camera and a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU. The screen supports NTSC DVD wide-screen resolution. The phone runs Android OS, which enables the use of apps available in the Android Market. Connection speeds up to HSDPA (3G+) are possible with the handset. The UX platform gives Xperia X10 one application to lift together all the user's different communications, Timescape, and one to lift together all the users media, Mediascape.

An Xperia X10 functions as a camera phone, including text messaging, a portable media player, and an Internet client with e-mail, web browsing and Wi-Ficonnectivity. The user interface is built around the device's touchscreen, including avirtual keyboard rather than a physical one (Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro goes with a physical keyboard). Third-party applications are available from Android Market, which launched in 2008 and now (20 November 2010) has over 200,000 apps. These apps have diverse functionalities, including games, reference, GPS navigation, social networking and advertising for television shows, films, and celebrities.

Nokia N97

Nokia N97 is a touch screen mobile phone in the Nseries of smartphones by Nokia, with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard (an AZERTY one is available in France).

Announced on 2 December 2008, the N97 is Nokia's second touchscreen phone (after the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic) based on the Symbian OS S60 5th edition platform.

The Nokia N97 was released in US flagship stores on 9 June 2009 and on 26 June 2009 was released worldwide. In September 2009 it was reported that two million N97 handsets had been sold in three months following its release.

The N97 ships with trial versions of Quick Office, Adobe reader, Boingo and JoikuSpot Premium as well as Nokia's own Ovi Maps and Ovi store.

The initial software had mixed reception, prompting the release of new firmware in October 2009. Nokia released the new firmware with kinetic scrolling for the N97 to address the major issues present in the firmware the device launched with.

Since October 2009 the N97 Mini is available which is a downsized version of the original N97. The N97 Mini was generally seen as an improvement over the original N97.

LG Optimus 2X

That's right, it's official. Needless to say, that LG Star we recently got our paws on is very real, though it won't go by that name at retail -- just as LG's own release materials had suggested, this monster has picked up the Optimus 2X name as it morphs from a prototype into brutally fast, overpowered reality. At the phone's heart beats a dual-core Tegra 2 processor running at 1GHz, the first such configuration to be officially announced by any smartphone manufacturer (though we're expecting others any day now). In case you're wondering how such power might be used, well, for starters, you've got both full 1080p TV-out via HDMI and video capture through an 8 megapixel primary camera paired with a 1.3 megapixel cam up front for face-to-face calling.

A 4-inch WVGA display is along for the ride along with 8GB of on-board storage (expandable with up to 32GB of microSD) and a 1,500mAh battery -- no larger than most single-core smartphones these days, so it'll be interesting to see if the final retail units hold up through a day of typical use. Unfortunately, the Optimus 2X is launching out of the gate with Android 2.2, but LG's already committing to releasingGingerbread updates "in due course." It hits first in LG's home market of Korea next month, followed by Europe and other Asian locales in the coming weeks; we're sure you can hardly wait, so why don't you check out some eye candy from our preview while you pass the time? Follow the break for the press release.
